The Blue Caves

The stunning natural formation of the Blue Caves is one of the sites that you definitely must visit during your stay in Zakynthos. It is a long chamber of successive caves that lead to the Great and Little caves, the great cave is referred to as the 'Kianoun'. Discovered back in 1897 the caves took their name from the stunning blue colour of the sea. The best time to visit is early in the morning as the reflection of the sun on the sea creates amazing patterns on the walls of the caves and this in return creates beautiful colours in the sea. In order to reach the caves you can go on an arranged excursion which usually also combines a visit to 'The Shipwreck'. Skinari Cape is the closest place that you can leave from in order to reach the caves.
