Vasilikos
Vasilikos! The area of Vasilikos is literally surrounded in vegetation. You first pass by olive groves, pine trees, vineyards, cypress trees, mountains and valleys, local farms, trees and flowers and you then arrive at what are probably the most beautiful sandy beaches in Zakynthos. At these beaches you can find, turtles, beach bars, water sports, cosmopolitan beaches with music, and quiet desolate beaches with peace and quiet, whew - what else could you ask for!! Vasilikos is an area of outstanding natural beauty both tranquil and wild and combines everything, the mountains and sea, lush vegetation and sandy beaches.
While travelling to Vasilikos drive with caution, especially if you are driving a motorbike or scooter as the bends in the road are often tight and sudden, there also some bends that are steep and the road surface in some places is slippery so take it slow and be safe!!
On the peninsular of Vasilikos you have so much to do and see. On one side you have the cosmopolitan beaches of Agios Nikolaos, Banana and Porto Zoro those of which have beach bars with dj's playing music, water sports and generally a very lively atmosphere, you also have Mafratzi which does have a beach bar but is a little more low key and then there is Porto Roma that of which has no beach bar and is a lot more relaxed. On the other side of the peninsular however we have those beaches that are protected by the National Marine Park due to them being the nesting ground of the loggerhead sea turtle Caretta Caretta, those beaches include Gerekas, Dafni, Sekania (here access is forbidden to the general public) and the small island Pelouzo. Each beach has its own unique outstanding beauty, only before you pay them a visit be sure that you are informed on what you need to watch for on these beaches and how to behave.
So, we hope now that you are aware of what's going on in Vasilikos and are sure that you will visit on more than one occasion during your stay here in Zakynthos!
