Church of the Lady of the Angels

A beautiful, picturesque, small stone church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Built back in 1687 by the guild of notaries the church was later destroyed by the earthquake of 1953 but then very quickly restored keeping its original form. Outside and above the main door carved into the stone you will see a representation of the Virgin Mary surmounted by angels and then above the left hand door there is a double headed phoenix (that of which is a masonic symbol) and the archangel Micheal. The church is located in the centre of Zakynthos Town and right next door to the church is a small park where you can rest up, it is not far from here that you will see the entrance to the mansion of Alexander Roma.
